To some extent, the player can have success by simply "mashing buttons" to perform tricks. Training will teach the player the various tricks in the game. Tricks are essential to keeping the adrenaline meter filled, which in turn means descending the mountain even faster. Further, this character's Signature Move is a true beauty to behold :-)īack to Top.= TRAINING Training is important to truly get the most out of the gaming experience in Downhill Domination. This rider is not positioned atop the mountain, but lower down. Note that there is also a bonus rider which can only be purchased in the Bike Shop for $50,000. If starting a new game, the game type is selected, then the player's chosen character hits the bottom of the mountain and rides directly into the Bike Shop to be properly outfitted to the player's desire before beginning competition. At this point, the player can start a new game or (if applicable) continue a previously-saved game. Once a character is selected, she or he jumps off the mountain (do not try this at home), is suddenly clad in riding gear upon a mountain bike, and freezes in midair. For those characters which are initially-available or which the player has already unlocked, brief information about these characters is available if a character's bio video has been unlocked, that can be accessed here as well.
Initially, only six characters are available the other (bonus) characters are shown as rock statues. Then it is time to get ready to play!!! Character selection is done with all the characters in the game standing atop a lone, narrow, tower-like mountain peak.

Literally everything the player absolutely needs to know about the game is listed in the game manual, including exactly what is required to unlock all sorts of bonus characters and features. All this combines to create a fast-paced game which is fun, challenging, and insanely addictive!!! One of the best things about Downhill Domination is not the game itself, but the game manual.

Downhill Domination includes over-the-top stunts, an interesting cast of characters (including real-world professional riders), numerous gameplay modes/challenges, a fantastic mix of mountain settings scattered around the world (although three mountains are located in the States), and many many many many many extras (which can be unlocked and/or purchased). and now EA Sports Big must answer the challenge. While Downhill Domination shuns snowboards in favor of mountain bikes, it definitely does raise the bar for the extreme sports genre. The original SSX truly put the extreme sports genre on the PlayStation2 map, and SSX Tricky raised the bar even higher. Downhill Domination is the latest entry in the extreme sports genre.
